An ideologically conservative political group, Young Americans for Freedom was founded in 1960.
Written on September 11, 1960 and signed at the home of William F. Buckley, Jr., in Sharon, Connecticut, the founding statement, known as the Sharon Statement, sought to define the responsibilities and principles that the youth of America ought to adhere to.
Since this day, though, there has been a definite split between those in attendance.  Some have stayed true to the Conservative course that was set.  Others shifted into Libertarian territory as the anti-war sentiment grew.
The Sharon Statement is considered a historical document in the Conservative Movement.
